Open adsorption systems can provide heating, cooling, storage of thermal energy and dehumidification. Low grade heat obtained from solar or waste heat can be used as energy source. The systems are operated at atmospheric pressure.

We analyze adsorber-designs and innovative sorbent materials to achieve the best performance of the system.

Our experimental setup consists of a fan, a heater, an evaporator and a changeable adsorber unit. The volume flow, the temperature, and the humidity are adjustable. We are able to easily change the sorbent material by a filling port.

 

The system dynamics and the steady state conditions are predicted very well by using validated dynamic models in the modeling language Modelica.
