Niklas von der Aßen was appointed university professor and head of LTT
Niklas von der Aßen was appointed by Rector Univ.-Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Dr. h. c. mult. Ulrich Rüdiger as university professor and head of the Insitute of Technical Thermodynamics (LTT). Prof. von der Aßen succeeds Prof. André Bardow, who is professor at ETH Zurich since April 2020 and heads the "Energy and Process Systems Engineering" group there. Symbolically, the baton has already been handed over by Prof. Hans-Jürgen Koß, who has been deputy head of the LTT in the meantime.
Prof. von der Aßen studied mechanical engineering and business administration at RWTH Aachen University, with stays abroad at the University of California, Davis in the USA and the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona, Spain. During his subsequent doctoral studies at LTT, he analyzed the utilization of CO2 as a raw material for polymers and chemicals in terms of thermodynamics and sustainability. At the same time, he established and led the LTT research group "Life Cycle Assessment". From 2016 to 2019, he worked as a sustainability consultant in the Engineering & Technology department of Bayer AG. Since 2019, Prof. von der Aßen has led the Energy Systems Engineering research group at LTT as part of his junior professorship "Sustainable Life Cycles in Energy, Chemical and Process Engineering". Since 2021, he has also been one of three rector’s delegates for sustainability, where he is particularly committed to the sustainable operation of the university. In his future research, he would like to consistently combine the aspect of sustainability with all areas of thermodynamics research at LTT. The vision of his research is to use scientific methods to make a tangible impact to climate protection and sustainability.
The entire LTT staff is very happy about the appointment of the new head. Everyone looks forward to the coming time with great confidence and starts the future with enthusiasm and new momentum.
