Background
SCI4climate is a scientific competence center of the federal country North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim is to research design options for a climate-neutral and competitive basic industry in NRW.
Goals
Possible contributions by the industry in North Rhine-Westphalia to limiting global warming are to be identified in close dialogue with industry. Transformation pathways for a climate-neutral and sustainable industry will be identified and comprehensively investigated. In this way, production processes and value chains in industry are designed to be climate-neutral in the long term.
For this purpose, models of generic industrial locations are mathematically optimized and the potential of future key technologies is determined. In addition, selected life cycles and value chains of goods are evaluated with regard to their emissions and resource consumption as well as their value creation potential.
